
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 brings enhanced security, system management & developer tools
Red Hat has announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.5, the latest update to its enterprise Linux platform. This release introduces several enhancements aimed at improving system management, security, and developer capabilities.
Among the new features, RHEL 9.5 includes additional system roles, such as a role for automating the configuration of the sudo command-line utility at scale. The platform also expands its support for confidential computing, offering enhanced data protection for AI workloads and reducing the risk of insider threats. Red Hat Satellite 6.16 has been released alongside RHEL 9.5, bringing updates to enhance functionality, efficiency, security, and compatibility. Notably, Satellite 6.16 now supports installation on RHEL 9, increasing operating system compatibility and strengthening compliance capabilities.
The web console in RHEL 9.5 now features new file management capabilities, allowing users to handle routine tasks without relying on the command line. Additionally, the release supports Podman 5.0, the latest version of the open source container engine, reinforcing Red Hat's focus on container-native innovation. Developers will benefit from updated application streams, providing access to the latest developer tools, languages, and databases. RHEL 9.5 also includes PG Vector for PostgreSQL, new versions of Node.js, GCC, Rust, and LLVM toolsets, JDK 17 as the default Java Dev Kit, and an improved image builder that supports pre-hardened image configurations.
