OpenAI updates its ChatGPT app for macOS with real-time third-party app integration
OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT app for macOS, enabling integration with third-party applications in real-time. This update allows the app to access and read content from specific on-screen applications, starting with developer tools like Visual Studio Code, Terminal, iTerm2, and Xcode. A demonstration showed ChatGPT's ability to interpret code from Xcode projects and provide real-time suggestions without needing manual code input.
While OpenAI plans to expand this feature to more applications, no specific timeline has been provided. Currently, the integration is exclusive to the macOS version and requires a ChatGPT Plus or Team subscription. Enterprise and Education users will gain access soon, with plans to eventually make it available to all users.
For privacy, users can control which applications ChatGPT can access, ensuring data security. Additionally, the company has made its official standalone ChatGPT app for Windows available to all free users today, though it currently doesn't have third-party app integration like its macOS counterpart.
