Google Authenticator 7.0 brings a Material You redesign, cloud sync, and privacy screen

Google Authenticator 7.0 is now fully available on Android, featuring a Material You redesign and several enhancements. Initially released to some users in August, the update resumed rollout in November and is now accessible via the Google Play Store.

Key features of this update include a new search functionality, allowing users to easily find accounts without scrolling. The search bar also integrates the hamburger menu, cloud sync status, and account switcher. Material 3 elements have been incorporated, with dynamic color theming on the homepage for the rotating codes and countdown indicator.

The update introduces automatic theme switching, removing the manual light/dark mode option from the navigation drawer. Users can now sync Authenticator codes to their Google Account, ensuring access across devices even if the phone is lost. Security has been enhanced with options to protect the app using screen lock, PIN, or biometric authentication.

Additional improvements include the ability to use the camera flash when scanning QR codes, and a new action that launches the camera when the app icon is long pressed.
