Element X is now available on the long-term support version 24.10 of ESS
The Element Server Suite (ESS) has released its latest Long-Term Support version, 24.10, including the new Element X app for customers needing semi-annual LTS updates. Based on Matrix 2.0, Element X is known for its end-to-end encryption, and includes features like instant messaging, group chats, and video conferencing, offering a secure communication solution for organizations seeking digital sovereignty.
The update also features Simplified Sliding Sync (SSS) to enhance message synchronization speed and reliability, and the Matrix Authentication Service (MAS) for improved user management and authentication through OpenID Connect. MAS supports integration with LDAP servers and OIDC providers, providing flexibility in user management.
The update requires a MAS-enabled backend to fully utilize Element X, with migration options for existing systems expected by early 2025. Key features such as the Admin/Audit Bot and Secure Border Gateways are now compatible with MAS, ensuring smooth administrative control post-upgrade. Authenticated media endpoints further enhance security by controlling access to media files. ESS allows organizations to customize servers, manage user accounts, and control data location, offering an alternative to mainstream messaging platforms and their data practices.
