WhatsApp for iOS will get Passkey support and chat interoperability to comply with the EU
In recent developments, WhatsApp launched its newest beta version for iOS, now accessible via TestFlight. The primary highlight of this update is the introduction of a passkey feature for account verification, which is anticipated to be available in a future update. The passkey feature is a result of WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience in terms of security and convenience.
In the beta version for Android, WhatsApp has indicated that the passkeys will be stored in the password manager. However, based on the currently available screenshots, it remains unclear whether the same applies to the iOS version. Furthermore, for devices that do not support the passkey feature, users will still have the option to receive a 6-digit code for account verification.
WhatsApp is also working on a chat interoperability feature to comply with new EU regulations. WhatsApp users will soon have access to a dedicated section for receiving messages from external apps, thanks to the platform's latest third-party chat feature. Additionally, users will be able to send texts to their contacts on WhatsApp while seamlessly switching between various third-party apps.
