Bitwarden introduces Passkey access for enhanced security and user convenience

Bitwarden, the popular password management software, has recently unveiled a new feature allowing users to access their web vaults using a passkey, eliminating the need for a username or password. The company has implemented this feature using the PRF WebAuthn extension for passkeys, an emerging technology that integrates passkeys into the encryption process, ensuring both convenience and end-to-end encryption.

This feature enhances security, as passkeys are more robust and secure than traditional passwords. They are immune to guesswork and resistant to phishing attacks, thereby offering a higher level of protection. When combined with Bitwarden's zero-knowledge, end-to-end encryption, users can secure their sensitive information and credentials effectively.

The passkey login feature is available to all Bitwarden users, regardless of their plan, including the free version. This breakthrough in passkey technology enables users to authenticate and decrypt their accounts in a single step, all without the need to use their Bitwarden password, 2FA, or even their login email address.
