Procreate unveils 'Procreate Dreams': A new groundbreaking animation app for iPad users
After 5 years in development, Procreate has finally revealed its new groundbreaking project in the creative field: Procreate Dreams, a new animation app tailored for iPad Pro users. This app seamlessly blends 2D art creation and animation, operating akin to a video editor with a strong emphasis on animating.
Procreate already had basic animation features that allowed for creating simple animations, but the new Procreate Dreams app includes several new advanced and user-friendly tools, including "Performing," which enables users to add keyframes through real-time gestures; a Multi-touch Timeline, seamlessly integrating drawing, cel animation, keyframing, video editing, and compositing; support for Onion skins for simultaneous frame viewing; audio and sound effects editing (Users can incorporate voiceovers, music, and sound effects into their animations with the new audio engine); and a "Flipbook" tool for crafting looping GIFs and intricate character animations.
Procreate Dreams leverages the capabilities of Apple Silicon M1 and M2-powered iPads, offering GPU acceleration and supports high-resolution rotoscoping with the capability to import ProRes footage up to 8K resolution, effectively turning the iPad into a mobile animation studio for digital artists. The app is compatible with all brushes from the original Procreate app and is optimized for use with the Apple Pencil. It also introduces a specialized file format for iCloud synchronization, allowing instant opening of 1TB files with complete undo history storage.
In contrast to the typical subscription-based pricing models, Procreate Dreams will be accessible for a one-time purchase of $19.99, one of the most praised features by Procreate users and one that will carry over to this new app. Dreams is set to be released on November 22nd, offering a fresh opportunity for 2D animators and artists to incorporate animation into their projects.
