Mimestream 1.1: The advanced Gmail client for macOS now supports Google's Advanced Protection Program
Mimestream, the advanced Gmail client for macOS, has launched version 1.1, now approved by Google for incorporation with the Advanced Protection Program. The support for this program has been highly sought after by enterprise and security-conscious users.
The Advanced Protection Program necessitates hardware security keys, among other security measures, to provide maximum protection to Google accounts. Users will need to buy at least two FIDO hardware security keys, such as YubiKey, one to use as a primary and the other as a backup to be stored securely.
After enrolling in the Advanced Protection Program, users will be logged out from all devices, apps, and services. Every app will require re-authentication, using the security key as a second factor to the password. On iPhones, the NFC functionality of the key can be used, while on Macs, the key can be plugged into a USB-C port.
In addition to Advanced Protection Program support, Mimestream 1.1 brings several enhancements. These include larger text sizes, optional invitee support, improved quoted text handling, and numerous bug fixes.
