Microsoft Edge 117 launches with Favorites recovery, Autofill enhancements, and more
Microsoft has launched the latest feature update for its browser, Microsoft Edge version 117, in the Stable Channel. This update introduces several new features and experiences, including Microsoft Edge for Business for unmanaged devices, a novel favorites' recovery feature, autofill enhancements, and more.
Microsoft Edge for Business is now accessible for unmanaged Windows (BYOPC) using Microsoft Intune Mobile Application Management (MAM). This allows businesses to manage the Edge browser on devices that are not directly managed by the company's IT department.
Another significant feature in this release is the Sync Favorites Recovery. This feature enables sync users to restore any favorites that they have lost or deleted within the past 14 days. Users can access this feature from either the Microsoft Edge favorites hub or the edge://favorites page.
The update also brings enhancements to the autofill feature. When users start typing in a form field, Microsoft Edge suggests possible in-line completions when there's an exact match with the saved data in the browser. For instance, if users type the first few characters of their address, autocomplete will suggest the rest of the address.
Meanwhile, the Google Chrome team has announced plans to deprecate the unload event starting in Chrome version 118. The deprecation process will occur gradually by changing the default so that unload handlers stop firing on pages unless a page explicitly opts in to re-enable them.
Lastly, Microsoft is deprecating several features, including Web Select, as well as Math Solver, Picture Dictionary, Citations, Grammar Tools, and Kids Mode to simplify the More tools menu. These features will no longer be supported or updated in future releases of the Edge browser.
