EFF updates Privacy Badger to enhance link tracking protection on Google products
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has unveiled an updated version of Privacy Badger, its renowned privacy-protection extension for Chrome and Firefox. The latest version, 2023.9.12, introduces enhanced link tracking protection, also known as “link unwrapping”, on Google platforms.
This update enables Privacy Badger to eliminate tracking from links on Google Docs, Gmail, Google Maps, and Google Images results. In addition to this, the privacy extension now removes tracking from links that appear after scrolling through Google Search results.
The EFF characterizes link tracking as a “creepy surveillance tactic” that enables a company to monitor your movements whenever a link is clicked to exit its website.
The 2023.9.12 version of Privacy Badger also addresses various site breakages and enhances translations in multiple languages.
