Deezer announces price hike for Premium and Family plans in the EU for the second time
Deezer, a widely used music streaming platform, has announced a rise in its prices for the Premium and Family plans. This move mirrors trends seen across other video and music streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Spotify, Disney, and YouTube, which have also implemented price increases in the past year. However, this marks the second time Deezer has upped its prices since last year.
The company stated that the price adjustment is to “support continuous investment in innovation to deliver valuable support for artists and enhance fan experiences”. The increase will affect premium and family subscriptions in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Following the rise, an individual premium subscription to Deezer will now be priced at €11.99 (or £11.99 in the UK, where the price remains unchanged). Family subscriptions will see an increase of €2 / £2, making the new price €19.99 / £19.99 in these markets. The Student plan remains at its current price of €5.99 / £5.99, with no further details provided by Deezer at this time.
Existing premium and family subscribers in the aforementioned countries will see these changes reflected in their billing from the first billing period after October 24th, 2023.
Comments
This is greedflation. The press release carefully dances around the fact that no more money will be passed on to artists.
Interestingly the privately held parent company, Access Industries, owns most of Warner Music Group.
Actually Access Industries floated WMG in 2020.
