WhatsApp Introduces New HD Photo Sharing Feature, Promises Enhanced Image Quality

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that enables users to share HD photos, as announced by Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook. The option, previously tested with a select group, will maintain the high-definition quality of shared photos.

An "HD" button will be present on the photo-sharing screen, among other image editing tools: by tapping it, users can choose the quality of the photo. Recipients will be able to identify these better photos by an HD label appearing in the bottom-left corner of the image. By default, the app selects Standard Quality for efficient sharing.

WhatsApp assures that all photos shared, regardless of quality, will be protected by the app's end-to-end encryption. While these HD photos might not be in the original resolution, they are compressed significantly less than the traditional Standard Quality option.

In his announcement, Zuckerberg also hinted that the feature to share HD videos via WhatsApp could be coming soon.
