Google has redesigned the Fitbit app with new features and tracking capabilities
Google's Fitbit is launching a new app with a redesigned layout. The app will be rolled out gradually in the coming months, beginning with beta testing for a select group of users.
The app will have a three-tab structure: "Today," "Coach," and "You." The "Today" tab will summarize the user's daily activity such as steps, stress management, sleep score, zone minutes, and overall activity. Additional metrics like readiness scores will be available to Fitbit Premium users. The "Coach" tab will serve as a center for fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness content, allowing users to filter workouts by equipment type. Fitbit Premium users will also be able to access specific workout types like dance cardio and HIIT. The "You" tab will enable users to set and customize their goals for steps, activity, and sleep, and will feature achievements and community engagement tools.
Fitbit is also adding a new tracking feature for activities such as walks, runs, or hikes, using the user's smartphone for an accurate step count and live route view on a map. The app's design follows Google Material Design standards, indicating Google's design principles' influence. While Fitbit has previously announced plans to encourage users to switch to Google accounts, it has confirmed that Fitbit data will not be used for Google ads currently.
