Discord.io to shut down following a major data breach affecting 760,000 members
Discord.io, a third-party service providing custom invite generation for Discord channels, is shutting down following a big data breach that affected approximately 760,000 users. The stolen data, which includes user IDs, encrypted passwords, and recent payment details, is now being sold on a darknet forum by a user named Akhirah.
Despite the leakage, Discord.io has minimized the importance of the stolen Discord IDs, stating that this information is not private and it’s visible to anyone sharing a server with the user. However, the breach does raise the possibility of individuals linking a Discord account to a specific email address.
The hacker, Akhirah, claimed they targeted Discord.io not for profit, but due to the service's alleged role in distributing illegal and harmful content, including servers related to pedophilia.
In response to the leak, the official Discord app has advised users to check their passwords, activate two-factor authentication (2FA), and modify any other possibly sensitive information.
