Delta Chat releases new update with xStore for platform-independent apps and serverless editor app
Delta Chat has released a new update featuring the xstore for platform-independent "everything" apps, including a variety of webxdc apps like a Wordle/Reactle clone, 2048, and tools such as a calendar, poll, and checklist. The update also introduces the first editor app similar to CryptPad, but serverless. The xstore apps are offline-first, end-to-end encrypted, and can be accessed in Delta Chat by messaging "hi" to xstore@testrun.org and opening the webxdc store app. These apps can be shared with chat members without the need for logins, cookies, or GDPR screens.
It's essential to have Delta Chat version 1.38 or higher for proper xstore functionality, particularly for desktop users. The platform supports multi-device setups, allowing secure syncing of notes, checklists, and calendars across devices, and even those without chat partners can use webxdc apps by sharing them with their "Saved Messages" chat. Developers are also encouraged to submit their webxdc apps to xstore, as outlined in the provided documentation.
Successful submissions can earn "delta chat" and "webxdc" stickers sent by postal mail. The xstore@testrun.org serves as a chat bot instance and the frontend for accessing and downloading webxdc apps, with continuous updates from "git" repositories. Users can also self-host the xstore bot, with installation instructions provided in the bot's codeberg repository. If the chat is cleared or the store is deleted, users can message "hi" to xstore@testrun.org to restore the store.
