Bluesky launches Self-Labeling for user posts and Media Tab, enhancing user control and content moderation

Bluesky has launched self-labeling for user posts and a specific media tab for profiles. The self-labeling feature lets users categorize their posts as "Suggestive," "Nudity," or "Porn," among others, by using a shield icon in the post composer. The aim is to automate content filtering based on user preferences and expand label categories in the future.

The platform's moderation settings allow users to customize warnings for different content types such as explicit images, nudity, spam, violence, and suggestive content, and the self-labeling system offers proactive warnings on posts and the capability to entirely conceal content, similar to Tumblr's "community labels" feature.

The added "Media" tab lets profile visitors see the user's posted images and videos. Bluesky is also enhancing information on blocked quoted posts, despite some users' preference not to see these posts. The platform recently launched the "Discover" algorithmic feed, showing trending content from followed accounts and those in the user's social network. Despite being invite-only, the platform has seen significant growth, with 1 million app installations in the past month.
