Anonymous file-sharing service AnonFiles shuts down due to users abusing the service
AnonFiles, a renowned service for anonymous file sharing, has ceased operations due to an unmanageable level of abuse from its users. The platform had gained significant popularity among threat actors for sharing stolen data samples, stolen credentials, and copyrighted material.
The website now hosts a message from the operators stating, “After trying endlessly for two years to run a file sharing site with user anonymity we have been tired of handling the extreme volumes of people abusing it and the headaches it has created for us.” The note concludes with, “This is not the kind of work we imagine when acquiring it and recently our proxy provider shut us down. This can not continue. Domain 4sale.”
The operators of AnonFiles are now seeking a buyer for their domain. The shutdown of the service will result in many files, previously used by both cybersecurity researchers and threat actors, becoming unavailable. If you're looking for an alternative, you can take a look at OnionShare or any other service in this alternative list.
That's sad to see. It was a great service.
It really was a great service.
