Shotwell 0.32.2 released with support for HIF image format and enhanced Flatpak compatibility
Shotwell, the free and open-source photo viewer and organizer developed by the GNOME project, has just released version 0.32.2. The update addresses several bugs and introduces new features, including support for the HIF image format. HIF, a variant of HEIF, uses HEIX instead of HEIC to accommodate larger than 8-bit color profiles and enhanced chroma subsampling.
The 0.32.2 release also enhances Shotwell's compatibility with the Flatpak sandboxed universal package format. This enhancement particularly affects the “send to” feature, streamlining the process of sending image files to another app or device.
In addition to these new features, the update resolves several bugs. Notably, it corrects a critical issue that occurred when exporting an image file lacking an exposure date and fixes a problem where meta-data was being written in a loop.
