Mojeek integrates openly-licensed media search engine Openverse into its image search functionality

Openverse, a search engine dedicated to openly-licensed media, has been integrated into Mojeek's image search, following requests from users on Mojeek's community forum several months ago. Mojeek, which introduced its image search functionality in 2018, initially utilized Pixabay and Bing Images as its primary image sources.

Pixabay, aligning with Mojeek's values, has a database of over 4 million royalty-free and stock images. Despite the extensive library, Pixabay may not satisfy the needs of all users seeking more in-depth image searches.

To address this, Mojeek has incorporated Openverse's extensive collection of 700 million Creative Commons licensed and public domain images and audio files. This vast repository is sourced from 45 different platforms, including Wikimedia Commons Commons and Flickr. Users now have the flexibility to use either Openverse or Pixabay under the Mojeek Image Search tab.
