Google unveils Notebook LM: an AI-powered note-taking assistant
Google has unveiled its latest venture, Project Tailwind, now officially known as NotebookLM. The project is an ambitious effort to redefine note-taking software, with a powerful language model (LM) at its core.
Initially, Notebook LM will be accessible to a select group of users in the U.S., as Google continues to fine-tune the product. The experimental software leverages the capabilities of language models, functioning as a virtual research assistant. It can summarize facts, explain complex concepts, and generate new ideas based on the user's chosen sources.
Notebook LM sets itself apart from conventional AI chatbots with its unique grounding feature. Users can ground the language model in their notes and sources, effectively creating a personalized AI that is well-versed in the user's relevant information.
As of today, users can ground Notebook LM in specific Google Docs of their choice. Google has announced plans to integrate additional formats into Notebook LM in the near future.
