Apple releases and then withdraws Rapid Security Response update due to issues with popular apps

Apple recently rolled out a Rapid Security Response (RSR) update for iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, and macOS Ventura 13.4.1 to mend an exploit that was actively compromising users. RSRs are a fresh breed of software releases from Apple, designed to deliver crucial security enhancements between regular software updates. These improvements can be directed towards the Safari web browser, the WebKit framework stack, or other critical system libraries.

However, Apple withdrew the update just hours after it was made available to the general public. Reports from the MacRumors forums indicate that following the RSR updates, users began receiving warnings that Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Zoom, and other websites were no longer supported on the Safari browser.

Apple is expected to re-release the RSRs once the issue has been rectified.
