Firefox 114: Improved DNS-over-HTTPS support and WebTransport capability
Mozilla Firefox 114, the latest version of Mozilla's web browser, has been released ahead of its official announcement. This release brings several notable improvements and features. One significant enhancement is the continued work on DNS over HTTPS support, with the inclusion of a user interface for managing the DNS-over-HTTPS exception list. Additionally, the DNS-over-HTTPS settings have been integrated into the Privacy & Security section of the Firefox Settings area, further enhancing user control over their browsing experience.
Another noteworthy addition in Firefox 114 is the inclusion of WebTransport, which is currently in the W3C Editor's Draft stage. WebTransport allows for the transmission of data to and from servers, similar to WebSockets, but with added capabilities such as support for multiple streams, unidirectional streams, out-of-order delivery, and reliable as well as unreliable transport means. This feature holds great potential for web developers, especially those already familiar with the benefits of using WebSockets. While Google Chrome has already been shipping with WebTransport support for over a year, Firefox 114 now brings this exciting feature to Mozilla users.
In addition to these major updates, Firefox 114 introduces several other improvements. For Android users, the release adds JavaScript support for window.print(). Users can now also search their bookmarks directly from the bookmarks menu. Linux users will benefit from FIDO2 / WebAuthn authenticators over USB now functioning properly. Mozilla's beta release notes provide further details on these enhancements and more.
To experience the new features and improvements in Firefox 114, users can download the release binaries from Mozilla.org, making it easily accessible to a wide range of users.
