Nextdoor uses Generative AI to deliver personalized content to users
Nextdoor, the popular social network for neighborhoods, has announced new features powered by generative AI that will help users write better posts and create more positive community engagement. The new feature, called the “Assistant”, uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT to analyze the topic and context of conversations, and suggest revised phrasing that is more likely to promote positive engagement. Users can review and edit these suggestions before posting.
One of the key benefits of Nextdoor’s new generative AI technologies is that the platform can now provide more personalized and relevant content to users. By analyzing user behavior and conversation patterns, Nextdoor can match content to users and provide more targeted recommendations for local news, events, and activities. This means users can stay better informed about what’s happening in their local area, and connect with their neighbors more easily.
Nextdoor began testing the new features with a select group of users, and is now making them more broadly available. However, the company’s focus on AI doesn’t stop here. Nextdoor is building a dedicated generative AI team led by the company’s Head of AI, Qi He, and plans to continue testing new AI models to improve the user experience. These changes come as Nextdoor faces criticism for its reputation for racial profiling, which led to the company releasing specific features to address this and its former CEO stepping down.
