Google releases May Android Security update with fixes for 47 issues and app downgrade prevention beyond factory version

Google has released its latest Android Security Update Bulletin for May, as it does on the first Monday of every month.

This update resolves 47 security issues and includes a few bug fixes specific to Google Pixel devices: improvements were made for touch screen response in certain conditions and for user interface, fixing the issue causing lock screen UI elements to overlap with home screen launcher interface.

But the most important fix in this update is the closure of the vulnerability CVE-2023-21116: Android now prevents users from downgrading to an app version older than the one their device originally shipped with. This is important because older app versions may exhibit security issues that are patched in newer versions.
