Google Chrome discontinues translate feature for versions 95 and older

Google Chrome is discontinuing the Chrome Translate feature for versions 95 and older. This feature, which allows users to translate foreign text on webpages, has been a key component of Chrome's functionality. However, users still on Chrome M95 and older will soon encounter an error message stating, "This page could not be translated."

While Google has not provided a specific date for when translation support will be shut down for older Chrome versions, users will need to update to Chrome version 96 or newer to continue enjoying the built-in translation feature. Chrome 95, released in October 2021, brought various improvements, including enhanced security and tab group saving. Unfortunately, users on older operating systems may not have the option to update beyond Chrome 95, potentially limiting their access to this translation capability.

Fortunately, users on desktop computers can install the Google Translate extension as an alternative to the built-in translation feature. This extension offers similar accuracy and will continue to receive support regardless of the browser version. However, it is worth noting that users with Android 5 devices are encouraged to consider upgrading to newer devices for enhanced online security, as Chrome's discontinuation of translation support for older versions may be related to new Translate capabilities that are not compatible with these releases.
