Proton launches password manager with end-to-end encryption to challenge LastPass

Proton, the company behind the popular Proton Mail and Proton VPN, has announced the launch of its new password manager, Proton Pass. The company stated that the development of a password manager has been one of the most common requests from the Proton community since the launch of Proton Mail.

However, Proton Pass is not just a standard-issue password manager. The company claims that it will be much more than that. Proton Pass uses end-to-end encryption on all fields, including the username and web address. This is a crucial feature, as even the smallest pieces of information can be used to create a highly detailed profile of an individual.

The development of Proton Pass was spearheaded by the SimpleLogin team, who joined forces with Proton in 2022 to bring advanced hide-my-email aliases to Proton users.

The beta version of Proton Pass is available on iPhone/iPad, Android, and desktop. Browser extensions are available for Brave and Chrome, with Firefox coming soon. The end-to-end encryption used in Proton Pass ensures that users' data is protected even if their device is lost or stolen.

Proton Pass is the latest addition to Proton's suite of privacy-focused products, which includes Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive and Proton Calendar.
