Oracle's gift to Developers: Access to new features in Oracle Database 23c free version
Oracle has released a free version of its Database 23c for developers, allowing them to access the newest features in the upcoming long-term support release. The Developer Release offers a Docker Image, VirtualBox VM, or Linux RPM installation file, without requiring a user account or login. The Windows version is set to follow shortly. Among the features available to developers are the JSON Relational Duality, which unifies relational and document data models, SQL support for Graph queries, and Stored Procedures in the popular programming language JavaScript.
The free version also includes JSON Schema, which allows developers to validate JSON document structures via industry-standard JSON Schemas, and operational property graphs for transactional and analytical property graph applications with Oracle Database. Developers can also use Oracle Kafka APIs to run Kafka applications against Oracle Database Transactional Event Queues. SQL domains allow developers to understand how data is used and improve overall data quality, without the complexity and incompatibility of usage-specific data types or user-defined types. Annotations store database metadata directly alongside the data, providing a central, lightweight, declarative facility to register and exchange usage properties across applications.
Oracle's new Database 23c Free—Developer Release aims to remove obstacles to developer access, allowing them to define the ecosystem without requiring permission. The release is a radical departure for Oracle, putting developers first by offering them the tools they need to build modern data-driven applications.
