Instagram's latest Reels features give creators more analytics and inspiration
Instagram is upping its game against TikTok by introducing new features for its Reels creators. Among the updates are metrics, gift in more countries, and a space for finding inspiration through trending audio and hashtags. Creators can now access analytics for how many times an audio has been used, a feature that TikTok has had for some time. To find trending audio on Instagram Reels, creators navigate to their professional dashboard and scroll down to "Reels Trends," where they can see all of the top audio and hashtags. Additionally, Instagram has added two new metrics to Reels insights: total and average watch times. This will help creators better understand how their content is performing and identify areas where they need to improve.
Another update to Reels is a new editing screen that brings together video clips, audio, stickers, and text in a unified format. This will make it easier for creators to align and time the elements of their Reels to the right moments in a more visual way. These updates are available globally on both iOS and Android devices.
Gifts feature on Reels is also expanding to more markets, including Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, New Zealand, and the UK. The platform is also adding a new feature that will allow creators to recognize their fans who send them gifts. When a creator taps the heart icon next to their supporters, the supporters will receive a notification that their gift has been recognized. This feature will create a stronger sense of connection between creators and their fans.
Meanwhile, TikTok is currently facing bans from governments around the world due to concerns that the app is sharing user data with the Chinese government. Instagram's move to provide more features to its Reels creators could prove to be a game-changer in the race for dominance in the short-form video market. Only time will tell
