BeReal announces 20 million daily active users and introduces Bonus BeReal feature in the UK

BeReal, the iPhone app of the year for 2022, has recently launched a new feature called Bonus BeReal, which is being tested with its UK users before expanding globally. Bonus BeReal is designed to give users more freedom to share special moments from their daily lives that happen outside the two-minute window, while still maintaining the core principle of authenticity. Users who post on time within the two-minute window will unlock the ability to post two Bonus BeReal during that day, at a time of their choosing. Each Bonus BeReal post will have its own comment thread and Realmojis, just like regular BeReal posts. Through BeReal Audio, users will also have two additional times to share the music and podcasts they're listening to when they post their Bonus BeReal.

While the original BeReal concept has faced criticism for causing users to share mundane photos, BeReal claims to have more than 20 million daily active users on its new blog, and has debuted Bonus BeReal to keep wavering users onboard. The feature could potentially undercut the spontaneous authenticity that BeReal strives for, as users will have the chance to pose for and edit their extra posts. However, BeReal has noted that it may make changes to the feature as it tests and tweaks it.
