Reddit is about to look a bit more like TikTok, with a full-screen video feed
Within the next few weeks, the interface of the popular discussion board Reddit will be divided in two, with a news feed dedicated to written publications, and another one for video content.
Reddit, which is approaching its 18th birthday, announced a new update to its mobile app in a blog post yesterday, which will “simplify and streamline how people discover, join, and contribute to communities and bring new ways to engage in conversations and content”. As a result, users will now have new Watch and Read feeds that will each allow them to isolate video and text content from the various subreddits they're subscribed to.
Let's recall that Reddit had introduced a new design to its web interface and mobile application in 2017, and has since displayed its willingness to make its community more accessible to the uninitiated, by uncluttering its news feed – what it had then called “the end of dystopian Craigslist”.
On top of that, Reddit is also adding the ability to search within post comments on desktop, iOS and Android. This means you don’t have to “ctrl-f” (or “cmd-f”) on the post page anymore, and you can search comment threads without expanding them. And this also works for usernames.
The company has also announced other updates like an updated web platform to deliver fast and reliable experiences, updates to their video player to enable Redditors to easily engage in conversations while watching, chat enhancements, new storefront updates and more.
These updates show that Reddit is definitely working to simplify its platform to attract new users, in order to become a more mainstream social media platform worldwide.
