WhatsApp introduces 'View Once' feature for disappearing voice messages

WhatsApp has recently revealed a new feature in a blog post, allowing users to send voice messages that will disappear after being listened to. This follows the 'View Once' feature for photos and videos that was introduced in 2021, providing an additional layer of privacy to messaging.

The disappearing voice message feature is designed to offer users a safer way to share sensitive information via voice notes. To maintain consistency with 'View Once' photos and videos, 'View Once' voice messages will also be distinctly marked with a 'one-time' icon.

WhatsApp assures users that all voice messages are already protected by end-to-end encryption by default. The company views 'View Once' as a “further example of their ongoing privacy innovation”.

The global rollout of 'View Once' voice messages is expected to take place over the next few days.
