Prime Video will include ads starting January 2024 with an ad-free option for an extra fee

Starting January 29th 2024, Amazon Prime Video will introduce advertisements into its streaming content, as previously announced by the company back in June. Customers who wish to avoid ads will have to pay an additional $2.99 monthly fee.

Despite the introduction of ads, Amazon assures that Prime Video will have fewer ads than traditional TV and other streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+. This new change will not influence the current Prime membership cost, which is $14.99 per month ($18 if you choose the ad-free option).

Amazon has communicated these changes to customers via email, emphasizing the benefits of a Prime subscription, and mentioning that its other free, ad-supported streaming service, Amazon Freevee, will continue to works the same, at least for now.

They should just bump up the current users to this tier and have an opt-out for those who would prefer to suffer ads and time lost to save a few bucks.

... or those that only use prime shipping, and don't even bother with the lackluster video side of prime.
