Discord redesigns mobile app with faster launch times, Midnight theme, and improved UI
Discord has finally rolled out a major update for its mobile app on Android and iOS after months of testing, responding to user feedback regarding previous clutter issues and introducing a new set of UI improvements. It's worth noting that this update is 100% mobile-centered, so there are no significant updates for the desktop clients here.
The updated version, known as "Discord but smol," (😅) offers a faster and more reliable app with mobile-specific features like voice messages and a 25 MB free file upload limit. Servers are now located in a dedicated tab on the sidebar, with additional access via a bottom bar consisting of three sections: The "Messages" section, which consolidates direct messages and simplified group DMs, and includes a search function for both messages and servers, and a swipe-to-reply gesture. The "Notifications" section serves as a hub for @mentions, friend requests, server events, updated on replies, and more. The notificationsare auto-clear, so they will fade away once you have read them. The "You" section houses user profile and account settings (along with a new search bar), as well as the friend list.
The updated app also offers significant performance enhancements, with a 55% faster launch time on Android and a 43% faster launch time on iOS, reduced crashes, and lower data usage. Discord has also launched the much-anticipated "Midnight" theme, a fully black design suited for OLED displays. You can take a look at all the details here, and remember that the new app update should already be available starting today.

The "improved" SUCKS. Accessibility, GONE. Ease of use, WHAT'S THAT? Features, MENUS! It is in the most confusing mess ever, it looks better, but there is no point IF YOU CAN'T EVEN USE IT. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Definitely noticing less crashing but the actual time it takes to load when switching between different servers or DMs is so much worse than before. And the amount of gesture conflicts (not to mention lack of a toggle to turn gestures off completely) is horrible for accessibility. Also the new midnight theme is great! wondering why they made the dark theme so much darker though. It's been triggering migraines for lots of people I know, but they're having to settle for it since the light theme is even worse. Wish they'd kept it the softer gray for people that need it.
Will it finally be less crap
Can't wait to test it ! Or maybe I can wait for Vendetta to update.
