Wireshark 4.2.0 released with improved Packet list sorting, support for HTTP/3, and more

The Wireshark Foundation has announced the release of Wireshark 4.2.0, marking the first major launch under its auspices. This new version of the widely-used network protocol analyzer introduces several key features, including support for dark mode on Windows and an added Windows installer for Arm64.

Wireshark 4.2.0 has also enhanced packet list sorting and has improved the generation of valid UTF-8 output in both Wireshark and TShark. A new display filter feature for filtering raw bytes has been integrated, and the display filter autocomplete has been refined to avoid suggesting invalid syntax. Additionally, MAC Address Blocks can now look up a MAC address in the IEEE OUI registry, and Wireshark supports new protocols, including Hypertext Transfer Protocol version 3 (HTTP/3).

Furthermore, the enterprises, manuf, and services configuration files have been compiled in, leading to improved start-up times. Beyond these updates, Wireshark 4.2.0 also includes numerous other changes, improvements, and bug fixes.
