Instagram users worldwide can now download Reels from public accounts

Instagram has announced a feature which allows global users to download public Reels onto their devices, a function previously only available to U.S. users. The company's head, Adam Mosseri, stated that these downloaded Reels will carry an Instagram watermark, similar to TikTok's watermark, displaying the account name.

The feature can be accessed by clicking the share button and selecting the download option, but it can be deactivated in the privacy settings. Just keep in mind that Reels with licensed audio will be downloaded without sound.

This update provides users with greater control over their content's distribution and use through Instagram's privacy settings, reflecting the company's dedication to improving user experience and adapting to emerging social media trends.

Interesting, now crappy accounts who repost content will have watermarks if they use this new feature. I'll continue to believe that reels / shorts / tiktoks do not serve the greater good. Can't wait for Instagram to be a more usable communication platform, as of now it's just a machine to waste time of its users.
