GitLab 16.6 update introduces GitLab Duo Chat as a Beta feature
GitLab has unveiled its latest update, version 16.6, introducing a series of new features and improvements. Among these is the GitLab Duo Chat, now available on GitLab.com as a Beta feature. It is also integrated into the Web IDE and GitLab Workflow extension for Visual Studio Code as experimental features.
The new version also introduces automatic claims of enterprise users, minimal forking — which only includes the default branch — and the ability for users to enforce MR approvals as a compliance policy. GitLab 16.6 also sees the Beta release of CI/CD components and an improved UI for CI/CD variable management.
In addition to these updates, GitLab has launched Switchboard, a self-service portal for customers and team members to onboard, configure and maintain their GitLab Dedicated instances. A further enhancement is the Runner Fleet Dashboard — Admin View (Beta), providing actionable insights for fleet management and developer experience queries, beginning with instance runners.
The 16.6 update also includes numerous other new features, improvements, and bug fixes, as part of GitLab's ongoing commitment to refining and enhancing its platform.
