Valve launches SteamVR 2.0, integrating new features into VR from Steam and Steam Deck
Valve has officially released SteamVR 2.0, an important upgrade to its virtual reality platform, following a month-long beta testing period that began in September. The aim of this update is to integrate novel features from the Steam platform into VR, setting up the stage for faster and more frequent introduction of new Steam features in the future.
This upgrade includes the integration of the latest Steam and Steam Deck functions. It features an enhanced keyboard that supports dual-cursor typing, new languages, emojis, themes, and improved colors for HDR screenshots and games (while streaming). The update also incorporates Steam Chat and Voice Chat, improving communication within the VR environment. It also revamps the Store, prominently displaying new and popular VR releases for users, and simplifies access to Steam notifications, further enhancing user experience. There are many more improvements and bug fixes that you can check in the official changelog.
Despite the release of SteamVR 2.0, Valve has not announced any new hardware. However, rumors indicate that the company is working on a standalone VR headset, codenamed "Deckard," which could potentially rival Meta's Quest VR headsets.
