Threema introduces end-to-end encrypted group calls for everybody

Threema, the Swiss instant messenger renowned for its focus on security and privacy, has recently made end-to-end encrypted group calls available to all users. This new feature enables Threema users to conduct both voice and video calls within group chats, ensuring the highest level of data protection.

The introduction of end-to-end encrypted calls for up to 16 participants was first seen in Threema for Android. Now, Threema for iOS has also incorporated this feature, making the full potential of group calls accessible to all users across different platforms.

In the announcement, Threema states that “In contrast to text messages, video calls contain personally identifiable information by nature. Therefore, rigorous data protection is vital, especially since the potential for misuse is considerable in this day and age of voice recognition, facial recognition, and artificial intelligence.”
