Proton introduces new password sharing feature for Proton Pass users

Proton, the company responsible for the privacy-centric suite of software that includes Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, and Proton Pass, has unveiled a new password sharing feature for its password manager, Proton Pass. This addition aims to combine security with convenience, allowing users to share passwords, usernames, credit card details, and other data stored in Proton Pass without compromising the end-to-end encryption of the data. Users also have the power to revoke access at any moment.

To share data, users must select or create a vault within their Proton Pass account. They then tap 'Share' on their device and input the email address of the intended recipient. The recipient will then receive an invitation to access the items within the vault.

The Password Sharing feature is accessible to all Proton Pass account holders, including those on Free plans. Free plan users can share vaults with up to two other people, “which is more than any other free password manager”, according to Proton. Paid subscribers, on the other hand, can create up to 20 vaults and share each vault with a maximum of nine other users.
