Google Maps adds new AI-driven search features and extends Immersive View
Google Maps is incorporating a range of new AI-driven search updates to improve its functionality and provide a more engaging navigation experience. The enhancements include the extension of Immersive View to more cities, offering a 3D representation of locations with information about local businesses while giving turn-by-turn directions with simulated weather and traffic conditions. Google Lens can also be launched within Google Maps in 50 new cities, offering augmented reality overlays of nearby locations
Google is using AI to refine the organization of search results for broad queries, similar to Google Search. Users can now ask specific or general queries within the Maps app, such as "animal latte art" or "things to do in Tokyo," and the app will provide recommendations in a card carousel format. The navigation map is also receiving updates for a more accurate real-world depiction, including updated colors, realistic building representations, and improved lane details. Additionally, it employs neural radiance fields, a form of generative AI, to create 360-degree experiences using various images like aerial photos, street views, and indoor shots.
For EV drivers on Android and iOS, Google Maps now displays comprehensive details about vehicle compatibility, charger speed, and last usage time. Additionally, Google is updating Places APIs for developers and automotive companies to show real-time charging information on infotainment screens, improving in-car navigation for EV users.

It is incredible how "AI-driven" became a selling point since ChatGPT. GoogleMaps is already AI driven but never market it (too afraid of users reaction maybe).
