ente Photos introduces advanced web and desktop photo editor with open-source API
Software firm ente has launched a new Photo Editor for its open-source and security-focused Ente Photos platform. The new editor is available on its web and desktop platforms, expanding its photo editing capabilities beyond mobile apps. The editor is accessible by clicking the pencil icon on the upper right toolbar when previewing a photo on ente's interfaces.
The editor includes a transform tab for adjusting the aspect ratio, rotation, and flipping of photos. It also provides color adjustment features for modifying brightness, contrast, saturation, and blur. After editing, users can either download the final image or add it to their ente library upload queue, with the original dimensions preserved. The editor was developed by ente in response to a lack of customizable and Next-compatible open-source photo editing tools.
The editor uses the HTML canvas element for image manipulation tasks, ensuring responsiveness across different image sizes. Image quality is maintained during scaling and exporting via an invisible canvas that mirrors user edits on the original-sized image. Ente plans to release a free, open-source, and feature-rich extensible React photo editing API, allowing developers to integrate image manipulation tools into their applications. The editor's SDK will soon be available on ente's Github page.
