Twitter preparing built-in long-form content posts called Twitter Notes

Twitter is currently testing a new option for its users to publish longer writing called Twitter Notes.

TechCrunch is reporting that the upcoming addition to Twitter is currently being tested with handpicked selected users before any sort of public rollout. When asked for comment, Twitter responded by saying it would share updates “soon.”

This functionality would be a much easier and less cumbersome alternative to making strings of multiple tweets restricted to 280 tweets. It would also make services like TwitLonger redundant with a built-in alternative that also supports embedded media and rich formatting. This support allows for Twitter Notes to host full news and research articles while still being directly on the service itself.

No formal rollout dates or other plans have been disclosed by Twitter, but given its current state of testing, "soon" could be within the next few months.
