Vivaldi now has built-in support for Mastodon alongside its own instance

The latest version of the Vivaldi web browser released today has in-browser support for the Mastodon federated social network.

The move comes weeks after Vivaldi launched its own Mastodon instance called Vivaldi Social. The goal of this move now is to both increase the adoption of Mastodon as a viable and privacy respecting alternative to X, as well as to reinforce it while it experiences unprecedented growth.

Since Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter last month, growth in Mastodon's user base has skyrocketed, going from 300,000 active users to over 2.6 million. As Mastodon is a federated social network spread across several independently operated yet interconnected instances, no one person or company can acquire each one, preserving Mastodon's independence by design.

In the spirit of Mastodon, Vivaldi's support for it is not limited to just Vivaldi Social, as any Mastodon instance can be added into its dedicated sidebar to create a split screen view of all of the user's active instances. Vivaldi hopes this ease of access for Mastodon is able to grow both the browser and the federated social network's adoption rates.
