The creator of Vine has launched a successor service named byte

about 3 years ago by IanDorfman

On January 24th, 2020, Vine co-creator Dominik Hofmann and his team officially launched Clash, a service with apps available on Android and iOS that functions in a very similar way.

Like Vine, byte is a video sharing social network that utilizes 6-second looping videos taken via your smart device's camera. From there, other people that use the app comment, like, and share their favorite uploaded loops. Many are taken to the simplicity of the format lending itself to easily shareable content that takes seconds to consume and appreciate.

Though the first few days of the service haven't been entirely smooth, with a major spam problem that is being actively addressed by the development team, the general community reception of the service has largely accepted it as a worthy successor to the now defunct Vine social network. The development team plans to continue improving content filtering and discovery alongside improvements to the service's spam protection.

byte is available now via the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Official updates on new functionality and fixes can be found both via byte's official forums and via the service's Twitter account.
