HandBrake 1.3.0 Released
Over the weekend, the open source video transcoder HandBrake received an update to version 1.3.0 featuring a laundry list of improvements from updated language translations to increased support for new formats.
Key cross-platform updates include:
Redesigned queue interface. Added and improved numerous language translations. Ability to import external SSA/ASS subtitles. WebM container format encoding added. Discord, Discord Nitro and Playstation 2160p60 4K Surround (supports PS4 Pro) presets added. Support for reading Ultra HD Blu-ray discs and AV1 via libdav1d.
There have been a number of platform-specific changes as well. For Windows, a dark theme has been added along with an improved layout for preferences that adds several new preferences. HandBrake for Mac is now sandboxed, uses the macOS hardened runtime and requires OS X 10.11 El Capitan or later. Linux improvements include a fixed slider control and a double-click shortcut to edit audio track settings along with AMD VCE encoding via Vulkan.
It's advised to ensure the Queue is empty before updating. Meanwhile users on versions older than 1.0.0 should note that custom presets might not be compatible with newer versions.
