Discord implementing a store into its client, Nitro users get access to games
Discord users will soon be able to not only talk about games with the app, but buy, launch, and play them, too.
According to Discord's announcement of its official in-app store, 50,000 Canadian Discord users will be the first to beta test the new feature. The initial lineup of games that will be purchasable from Discord directly include:
- Dead Cells
- Frostpunk
- Omensight
- Into the Breach
- SpellForce 3
- The Banner Saga 3
- Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
- Hollow Knight
- Moonlighter
- This is the Police 2
- Starbound
On top of games being offered on a storefront, subscribers to Discord's Nitro service will now have access to games with their subscription. At launch, these games include:
- Saints Row: The Third – The Full Package and Saints Row IV – Game of the Century Edition from the Saints Row series
- Metro: Last Light Redux
- Lost Horizon
- Darksiders: Warmastered Edition
- Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition
- Kathy Rain
- Gonner
- Kingdom: New Lands
- System Shock
- Super Meat Boy
- Bridge Constructor
In addition to being able to purchase, download, and launch games from Discord directly, the game-centric messaging, voice, and video chat app will also be able to scan users' computers for other video game storefronts and games, allowing users to launch the game directly from Discord regardless of what storefront it was purchased from. Discord will automatically launch both the storefront's client and the game.
These features do not have a final launch date, and Discord noted that "...things may change by the time we’re ready to launch. What you see today will likely not be what you see in the future."
