Next Android version will include idle microphone and camera recording protection
According to a post by Kyle Wiggers at XDA Developers, Android's next release, codenamed Android P, will disable access to the device's microphone or camera when an app enters an idle state according to its user identifier (UID). This is in order to combat any application from recording audio or video even when not in active use.
Previously, the permissions system that was introduced in Android Marshmallow was bypassed with a single prompt of user consent. Once a user gave an app permission to access the camera or microphone on their device, the app was able to use it freely whenever it wished. This Android P release is hoping to greatly enhance and simplify the previously convoluted and tedious process of revoking that permission.
