Google launches Gmail Go, a lightweight version of Gmail for low-end Android devices
Gmail is the latest Google app to get a lightweight version in the company's "Go" series. The "Go" versions of Google's applications have been designed for devices that have lower technical specifications in comparison to "mid-range," "high-end," and "flagship" tablets and phones.
This means that Gmail Go is currently only available to those that already have the app pre-installed. Presently, that is limited to devices that have shipped with Android Oreo (Go edition). Google's official website for this version of Android can be found here.
According to this article by our friends at TechCrunch, Gmail Go is a 9.51 megabyte download, with the fully installed app only taking up around 25 MB of storage space. This is roughly half of the standard Gmail app's 20.66 MB download and 47 MB full install.
For alternatives to Gmail Go and, indeed, the standard version of Gmail, you're in the right place!
