Setapp offers a subscription based app store for Mac
MacPaw, the company behind the popular Clean My Mac, has recently launched their very own app store for Mac. It's a subscription based service that grants you access to a growing, curated collection of quality apps through the Setapp desktop application. The apps are fully functional too, ad-free with no in-app purchases.
Setapp provides a sleek, easy to use interface for accessing the bundled apps. Once it's downloaded, you'll be able to access them in the Finder Sidebar or via a drop-down menu in the Mac menu bar. They're also available via Launchpad and Spotlight search as well.
Currently, the lineup of apps includes many that already exist on the Mac App Store, like Polarr for photo editing, Ulysses for writing and Screens for remotely connecting to your computer. It also includes other popular apps like Xmind for brainstorming and mind-mapping. Of course, you also get a couple of MacPaw's great apps too, including CleanMyMac and Gemini 2 for finding duplicate files.
Downloaded apps are kept updated in the background and are accessible for as long as the subscription remains, a mere $9.99 monthly payment. That's for access to the entire bunch of apps, including the many more apps the company intends to add. If you cancel, you'll have access to the apps until the end of your paid duration, at which time they'll cease to function. You can always pick right back up with another subscription if you want access again.
The subscription model may not be for everyone, but it's a great option to have and can be an excellent money saver if you need several of the included apps.
