Ziva VFX information
What is Ziva VFX?
Ziva is a suite of character simulation tools developed by DNEG, consisting of three components. Ziva VFX is a Maya-based software for constructing and simulating musculoskeletal systems and soft tissue anatomy, producing skin mesh deformations informed by underlying anatomy. It scales from complex animals and fictional creatures to full-body digital humans, and received a Scientific and Technical Achievements Academy Award in 2025. Ziva RealTime is a machine learning-powered tool that reproduces character deformations at realtime speeds, enabling high-fidelity character assets in virtual production, VR, and game environments. Ziva Face Technology is a suite of tools for producing photoreal digital faces, including scan conversion, digital face puppets, and AI-powered facial performance capture. Ziva VFX was originally developed as an independent commercial product before being acquired by Unity in 2022. DNEG acquired an exclusive licence to the technology in 2024, and commercial sales to third parties ended at that point.
